Can I mix lawn dressing with fertilizer?
It’s best not to as both are high in nitrogen, which if not watered regularly, will burn your lawn. The regular watering needed to not burn your lawn will water log the soil and drown the lawn.

Is the topsoil the same as lawn dressing?
No they are not the same. Our topsoil mix contains compost and kraalmanure. While it has been sifted, the lawn dressing is sifted much more than topsoil. The topsoil mix, because of the compost in the mix will only wash away instead.

Best time to start lawn dressing?
Anytime in August. You can apply it in September, but ideally by September you would want your lawn green and luscious already.

What is the lead time for ordering lawn dressing?
Due to everyone getting their gardens ready for Spring and Summer in August, the lead time can vary from 3-7 days, depending on the amount of bookings made to date.

If I order, what time will my delivery take place?
Unfortunately, we can’t determine an estimated time of delivery. We deliver to various areas in Gauteng which in turn, makes it difficult to give an ETA. We do however call before the delivery. The best will be to have it delivered a day or two before the date that it will be used.

How big should the container be for fruit trees?

The size of the container depends on the type of fruit tree. Generally, a pot that’s at least 40-50 cm wide is ideal. This gives the roots enough space to grow. As the tree matures, you may need to repot it into a larger container to support healthy growth and fruit production.

Can I keep my fruit trees in containers permanently, or will I need to plant them in the ground later?

You can definitely keep your fruit trees in containers permanently, especially dwarf varieties. They’re specifically bred to thrive in smaller spaces and do just fine in pots as long as they have enough sunlight, good soil, and regular watering. Just remember, you might need to upgrade the container size as the tree grows.

Do fruit trees in containers need more frequent watering?

Yes, fruit trees in containers usually need more regular watering compared to those planted in the ground. The soil in pots tends to dry out faster, especially in warm, sunny conditions. It’s best to water deeply and check the soil moisture regularly, letting the top layer dry slightly between waterings.

What kind of fertilizer should I use for container-grown fruit trees?

A slow-release, balanced fertilizer works great for most container fruit trees. Look for fertilizers specifically designed for fruit trees or use a general-purpose fertilizer like a 5:1:5 or 3:1:5. Feed your trees in spring and again in mid-summer for the best results, and follow the instructions on the fertilizer label for the right amount.

Can I move my fruit tree containers around if needed?

Yes, one of the great benefits of container gardening is mobility! You can easily move your fruit trees around to catch the best sunlight, protect them from harsh weather, or even bring them indoors during cold snaps. Just make sure the containers are sturdy and manageable in size, especially as the trees grow. Using pots with wheels can make moving them even easier.

How often should I water my spring seedlings?

It really depends on the plant, but let’s keep it simple. Impatiens and Begonias like to stay moist, so you’ll want to check them regularly—just don’t drown them! Portulacas, on the other hand, are more of the “water me when you remember” types, since they prefer to dry out between watering. A good rule of thumb is deep watering once or twice a week, but keep an eye on them, especially as the weather warms up.

Can I grow Petunias and Marigolds in containers, or do they need to be in the ground?

Absolutely, you can grow them in containers! Petunias are fantastic in hanging baskets, and Marigolds do great in pots too. Just make sure your containers have good drainage and are in a spot that gets plenty of sun—about 6 hours a day should do the trick.

What’s the best fertilizer for these seedlings?

A slow-release, balanced fertilizer is your best bet for most of these plants. Impatiens, Petunias, and Begonias like to be fed every 6-8 weeks, while Marigolds and Portulacas don’t need as much attention. Something like a 5:1:5 or 3:1:5 mix will give them the nutrients they need without overloading them.

Do I need to deadhead (remove spent flowers) to keep the blooms coming?

For Petunias and Marigolds, yes! Deadheading will keep the flowers coming and make the plants look tidier. Impatiens and Begonias aren’t as needy in this department, but it’s still a good idea to pinch off any dying blooms. Portulacas are pretty easygoing—they tend to drop their spent flowers on their own, so no need to fuss over them.

Can I plant these seedlings in shady spots, or do they need full sun?

That depends on which plants you’re talking about! Impatiens and Begonias love the shade, so they’re perfect for those tricky areas in your garden that don’t get much sun. But Petunias, Marigolds, and Portulacas? They’re sun lovers through and through, and need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight to really thrive. Just make sure you plant them where they’ll get the right amount of light.
